Feb 9th - Ice Maker

A picture of one of the rain gauges I have on my backyard. It shows 1/2 inch of ice! This picture was taken at 5pm and we already have freezing temperatures... tonight is going to be cold. Before getting into the house I stopped by the mailbox and when I tried to insert the key into the slot, I realized that the slot was full of ice...Never seen before something like that in Houston!

Una foto de uno de los medidores de lluvia que tengo en mi jardín. ¡Muestra 1 1/2 cm de hielo! La foto la saquéa las 5pm y ya tenemos temperaturas bajo cero... esta noche va a estar frío. Antes de entrar a casa paré en el buzón y cuando traté de meter la llave en la ranura, me di cuenta de que la ranura estaba llena de hielo... ¡Nunca había visto algo así en Houston!

Feb 3rd - Ice Age

 There is an arctic blast affecting Houston on the last few days. In our patio we have a small fountain with two pigeons drinking water from it. Apparently, one of them decided to go for a quick dive... with such bad luck that it didn't come out of the water before it froze.
There it lays trapped on the claws of the ice while its partner looks almost without understanding the situation.
Perhaps one day, when the weather decides to come back to normal, the ice will go, and our friend will emerge victorious!

Una ola de frío ártico está afectando a Houston en los últimos días. En nuestro patio tenemos una fuente con dos pichones tomando agua. Uno de ellos decidió tomar un chapuzón... con tal mala fortuna que no salió a tiempo y el agua se congeló.

Allí yace atrapado en las garras del hielo mientras su compañero lo mira casi sin comprender la situación.

Tal vez algún día, cuando la temperatura decida normalizarse, el hielo ceda, y nuestra amigo emerja victorioso!

Jan 26th - Bibleman

Tobias shows proudly his 1st place medal on a Bible contest awarded on an Academic Quest that involves several Christian schools in the area.

Tobias muestra orgulloso la medalla de 1er puesto en un concurso sobre la Biblia que gano en el Academic Quest que involucra varias escuelas cristianas de la zona.

Not every day one gets the chance to light the fireplace in hot Houston. Today is one of those days, and here I am, resting with my family after a very good day.

No todos los dias uno tiene la chance de encender el hogar en el caluroso Houston. Hoy fue uno de esos dias, y aqui estoy, descansando con mi familia despues de un muy buen dia.

Jan 18th - Matching clothes

So, one year ago Mariel knitted a beautiful vest for me that has been keeping me warm in winter. She now finished Emmanuel's matching vest. Now we can go out wearing exclusive matching clothes. :-)

El año pasado Mariel me tejió un chaleco que me ha estado manteniendo abrigado durante el inviverno. Ahora terminó uno para Emmmanuel haciendo juego. Ya podemos salir a pasear luciendo nuestra ropa exclusiva haciendo juego. :-)

Jan 17th - MLK Puchero Day

Today we celebrate in the USA Martin Luther Kin Jr.'s day.

It is a holiday for schools, but not for most workplaces.

Yet, I took the day off in order to spend time with the kids.

Since the weather is a bit cold around here on these days, we decided with Mariel to prepare puchero.

Here is my plate right before my attack.

It was a resounding success and we are already considering on establishing a new tradition for the Musante's family: MLK Puchero Day

Hoy celebramos el día de Martin Luther King Jr. en los EE.UU. Es un día feriado para las escuelas pero no para la mayoría de los trabajos.

Sin embargo, yo me tomé el día libre para estar con los chicos.

Aprovechando que los días están un poco fríos por acá, con Mariel decidimos preparar un puchero.

Acá está mi plato segundos antes de mi ataque.

Fue un éxito rotundo y ya estamos pensando en instaurar una nueva tradición en la familia Musante: MLK Puchero Day
