Feb 9th - Ice Maker

A picture of one of the rain gauges I have on my backyard. It shows 1/2 inch of ice! This picture was taken at 5pm and we already have freezing temperatures... tonight is going to be cold. Before getting into the house I stopped by the mailbox and when I tried to insert the key into the slot, I realized that the slot was full of ice...Never seen before something like that in Houston!

Una foto de uno de los medidores de lluvia que tengo en mi jardín. ¡Muestra 1 1/2 cm de hielo! La foto la saquéa las 5pm y ya tenemos temperaturas bajo cero... esta noche va a estar frío. Antes de entrar a casa paré en el buzón y cuando traté de meter la llave en la ranura, me di cuenta de que la ranura estaba llena de hielo... ¡Nunca había visto algo así en Houston!

Feb 3rd - Ice Age

 There is an arctic blast affecting Houston on the last few days. In our patio we have a small fountain with two pigeons drinking water from it. Apparently, one of them decided to go for a quick dive... with such bad luck that it didn't come out of the water before it froze.
There it lays trapped on the claws of the ice while its partner looks almost without understanding the situation.
Perhaps one day, when the weather decides to come back to normal, the ice will go, and our friend will emerge victorious!

Una ola de frío ártico está afectando a Houston en los últimos días. En nuestro patio tenemos una fuente con dos pichones tomando agua. Uno de ellos decidió tomar un chapuzón... con tal mala fortuna que no salió a tiempo y el agua se congeló.

Allí yace atrapado en las garras del hielo mientras su compañero lo mira casi sin comprender la situación.

Tal vez algún día, cuando la temperatura decida normalizarse, el hielo ceda, y nuestra amigo emerja victorioso!

Tobias shows proudly his 1st place medal on a Bible contest awarded on an Academic Quest that involves several Christian schools in the area.

Tobias muestra orgulloso la medalla de 1er puesto en un concurso sobre la Biblia que gano en el Academic Quest que involucra varias escuelas cristianas de la zona.

No todos los dias uno tiene la chance de encender el hogar en el caluroso Houston. Hoy fue uno de esos dias, y aqui estoy, descansando con mi familia despues de un muy buen dia.

Jan 18th - Matching clothes

So, one year ago Mariel knitted a beautiful vest for me that has been keeping me warm in winter. She now finished Emmanuel's matching vest. Now we can go out wearing exclusive matching clothes. :-)

El año pasado Mariel me tejió un chaleco que me ha estado manteniendo abrigado durante el inviverno. Ahora terminó uno para Emmmanuel haciendo juego. Ya podemos salir a pasear luciendo nuestra ropa exclusiva haciendo juego. :-)

Jan 17th - MLK Puchero Day

Today we celebrate in the USA Martin Luther Kin Jr.'s day.

It is a holiday for schools, but not for most workplaces.

Yet, I took the day off in order to spend time with the kids.

Since the weather is a bit cold around here on these days, we decided with Mariel to prepare puchero.

Here is my plate right before my attack.

It was a resounding success and we are already considering on establishing a new tradition for the Musante's family: MLK Puchero Day

Hoy celebramos el día de Martin Luther King Jr. en los EE.UU. Es un día feriado para las escuelas pero no para la mayoría de los trabajos.

Sin embargo, yo me tomé el día libre para estar con los chicos.

Aprovechando que los días están un poco fríos por acá, con Mariel decidimos preparar un puchero.

Acá está mi plato segundos antes de mi ataque.

Fue un éxito rotundo y ya estamos pensando en instaurar una nueva tradición en la familia Musante: MLK Puchero Day

Jan 16th - Math Olympics

Tobias shows the ribbons he got awarded recently. This year he will be representing again his school on the district math olympics. Go, son!

Jan 15th - Lobster tails. A new family tradition?

Yesterday Mariel decided to treat us with lobster tails for dinner. Here its me, helping with some of the details while cooking.

It was the first time for the kids to have lobster and they were intrigued about it at first. After tasting them, the verdict was that they are like a giant shrimp, they taste really good, and we should have them more often for dinner. Not sure our budget will resist that!

Ayer Mariel decidió preparar colas de langosta para la cena. Acá estoy yo ayudando con algunos detalles durante la preparación.

Fue la primera vez que probaron langosta los chicos, y estaban bastante intrigados al comienzo. Después de probarlas, decidieron que son como un camarón gigante, que son muy ricas y que tendríamos que comer esto para la cena mas seguido. ¡No estoy seguro de que nuestro presupuesto lo resista!

Jan 14th - Milestones

Today Emmanuel finished reading a 300 pages book he got for Christmas.
He felt so proud of his accomplishment.
His excitment brought back memories of my childhood, when books with lots of pages where truly a goal to conquer!

Estaba super orgulloso de su logro.
Su entusiasmo me hizo recordar a mi niñez, ¡cuando los libros con muchas hojas eran realmente una meta para conquistar!

Apparently, Tobias decided to follow my example and he bent one of his fingers this week too!

Jan 11th - Sport Injuries

Yesterday I hurt my middle finger while coaching one of my basketball teams and ended up wearing a splint.

I didn't think it worthy enough to post about so I let it go. Now, today, while playing racquetball, my oponent swang his racquet really hard right into my face and my goggles cut my nose (I'm really thankful to those goggles!) .

I'm not liking the trend I see this week related to sports and injuries, so I think that tomorrow I'll stick to chess as far as sports are concerned!

Ayer me torcí el dedo mientras entrenaba uno de mis equipos de basket y me tuve que poner una férula.
No pensé que fuera algo importante como para publicar una foto de eso.
Pero hoy, jugando racquetball, mi contrincante sacudió su raqueta bien fuerte en mi cara y mis anteojos me cortaron la nariz (estoy muy agradecido a esos anteojos!).
No me está gustando la tendencia que veo esta semana en lo que respecta a deportes y lesiones, así que creo que mañana mi practica de deportes se va a limitar al ajedrez!

Jan 9th - New Beginnings!

Every Sunday, many people at our church recognize the need to establish a relationship that intimate, sincere and personal with Jesus, and make Him the Lord of their lives with the hope of reaching a life that is complete and happy.

After the service these people go to a room called "New Beginnings".

There, my wife and I enjoy assisting along with other volunteers.

Today, hundreds of people took such decision and I celebrate that!

The picture shows a poster from that room.

Cada domingo, muchas personas en nuestra iglesia reconocen la necesidad de tener una relación íntima, sincera y personal con Jesús y hacerlo el Señor de sus vidas con la esperanza de alcanzar una vida plena y feliz.

Después del servicio esas personas van a un salón que se llama "Nuevos Comienzos".

Ahí mi esposa y yo, disfrutamos ayudar junto a otros voluntarios.

Este domingo cientos de personas tomaron esa decisión y yo celebro eso!

I love when I have the chance to play racquetball at lunch time! Today it was one of those days.
The part I enjoy the most is diving to get those really hard to get low balls.
It brings me back to the days when I we used to play in Argentina.

Disfruto mucho cuando tengo la oportunidad de jugar al racquetball a la hora del almuerzo! Hoy fue uno de esos días.
La parte que me gusta más es volar para alcanzar esas pelotas bajitas bien difíciles.

Today I celebrate the fact that I'm playing chess with my dad over the internet. I love to do stuff with him!
